These are legitimate recognised courses of study, but they cover a narrower curriculum than their 3-year counterparts, with correspondingly narrower long-term outcomes.
• The 3-year (or 3.5-year) version of the same field — for example, "Fachkraft für Lagerlogistik" rather than "Fachlagerist" — builds on the same foundation but adds broader planning, coordination, and technical study, leading to a more complete qualification.

Nursing (Pflegefachmann/-frau) — 3 years. Germany's unified, reformed nursing Ausbildung (introduced 2020), combining general, paediatric, and elderly care study into one qualification. Mechatronics (Mechatroniker/in) — 3.5 years. Combines mechanical, electrical, and electronics engineering study; one of Germany's most rigorous technical vocational qualifications, applied across manufacturing, automotive, and industrial automation.

Logistics (Fachkraft für Lagerlogistik) — 3 years. Covers the full curriculum of warehouse and supply-chain study, including planning, coordination, and inventory systems — broader than the 2-year "Fachlagerist" qualification, which covers operational basics only.

How the Dual Study Pathway Works

2. Securing a training place — admission to a dual study programme with a company registered under the IHK (Chamber of Commerce) or HWK (Chamber of Skilled Trades) is required before the visa stage.
3. Visa application — under Section 16a of the Residence Act, at the German consulate in India.
4. Study period — 3 to 3.5 years, split between company-based practical training and vocational school study, with a training stipend throughout.
5. After qualifying — graduates hold a nationally recognised Berufsabschluss and can pursue employment, further qualification (such as Meister), or continued study in Germany.
