New Zealand Increases Work Hours for International Students from November 2025

Big news for aspiring and current international students—New Zealand is making it even more rewarding to study in one of the world’s most student-friendly countries.

From November 3, 2025, eligible tertiary and certain secondary students will be able to work up to 25 hours per week, up from the current 20-hour limit.

Why This Matters

This policy shift opens the door to:

  • Greater income potential to help manage living costs
  • Valuable work experience in New Zealand’s vibrant job market
  • A stronger, more competitive CV—whether your career goals are in NZ or globally

In addition, students considering a change in course level or institution will now need to apply for a new student visa, ensuring a clear and compliant study pathway.
